Installing Blosxom

Posted in Uncategorized at 12:00 am by dgcombs

I’m not going to provide you with a detailed step by step installation process. There are a number of other sites with more than enough information to help you along. One is Dan Dickenson’s Start Your Own which I find very good.

Mary Harrsch has one on Darkwingwhich is apparently a Windows IIS server. You can pick up some tips on that kind of install here.

There is just a plethora of information on the Blosxom Unofficial Web site.

My Blosxom

Boa requires a few odd things. One you might remember is the fact that the root directory for the web is compiled into the server. Unfortunately, this influences the structure of the site a little.

Directory Structure
/var/www/localhost
—/htdocs
——/blosxom
———/Colophon
———/General
———/Family
———/Animation
—/images
—/photos
—/cgi-bin
——/plugins
———/state

/etc/boa.conf
Well, the salient parts anyway.

DocumentRoot: The root directory of the HTML documents.
DocumentRoot /var/www/localhost/htdocs

Aliases: Aliases one path to another.
Alias /photos /var/www/localhost/photos

ScriptAlias: Maps a virtual path to a directory for serving scripts
ScriptAlias /cgi-bin /var/www/localhost/cgi-bin
